Overview
The Individualized Master of Arts (IMA) concentration in the Social Sciences at Antioch University Midwest (AUM) provides students with the knowledge and competencies to develop careers in a variety of Adult Education, Applied Psychology and Health Care related fields. Towards this end students complete six already designed foundation courses. Following this sequence, under the guidance of an AUM faculty advisor and a mentor with subject matter expertise, students may create their own individualized courses in their chosen areas of specialization.
Students may focus on one of the following areas of study:
Program Outcomes
- A commitment to social responsibility within one’s discipline or field
- Mastery of the integration of theory and practice in one’s discipline or field
- Adoption of a transdisciplinary understanding of one’s discipline or field
- Proficiency in collaborative practice one’s discipline or field
- Content area proficiency (first year) and mastery (complete degree) within one’s discipline or field
In addition, throughout the social science curricula, the following threads will be woven:
- Reading as a scholar-practitioner
- Developing graduate academic writing skills appropriate to one’s field or discipline
- Reflection on one’ s practice and scholarship
- Identifying possible research topics
- Building a community of practice and scholarship
