What is IKS?
IKS is an academic space designed to encourage, motivate and support future and current ILPS students interested in designing an interdisciplinary curriculum that values the integration of mind, heart and spirit, synthesizes matter and spirit, and incorporates various ways of knowing and being.
We believe that the Academy is a place where a learner experiences an opening of mind, heart and spirit. We wish to encourage students to move beyond the limitations of dualities, to cross boundaries of ideologies, to understand learning as a practice of true freedom, to experience ‘knowing’ as that which leads us into greater connection and greater understanding of life, and to challenge the rigid dichotomy between mental knowing, that is, knowing by logic and reason, and other forms of knowing including experiential, contemplative, and intuitive.
Through various meaningful learning opportunities and activities IKS hopes to provide support and encouragement to learners. These activities include offering and facilitating graduate level courses, organizing talks on various topics of interest, designing for ILPS residencies short sessions introducing integral approaches to knowing and being, and bringing together interested students and faculty through regular study groups and other events.
IKS hopes to become a space for all learners and seekers who want to integrate Inner and Outer Knowing. Knowing and Being. East and West. Spiritual and Secular. Matter and Spirit. IKS emphasizes and reflects Antioch’s cherished values of life-long learning, rigorous inquiry, personal and social transformation through knowledge, and respect for cultural and global diversity.
