Biographical Information
My experience in higher education began
with a teaching assistantship at Purdue in 1968 and continued
with a teaching fellowship at Bowling Green State University
for four years and a one-year appointment as an instructor
in the English department. Since 1988 I have been on the
faculty of Antioch University where I was one of the original
faculty at the time of the schools inception on the
Yellow Springs campus. Over one hundred students have earned
master's degrees, primarily in Creative
Writing, under my advising. I designed the Professional Writer course
for new creative writing students. Other courses I teach
to graduate students are in film studies and modern literature.
I teach in the Undergraduate Studies, one
of Antioch University Midwests adult programs. The
courses I most frequently offer are Literature of the Americas
and American Culture and Characters (courses I conceived
for the general education curriculum). Each year I teach
a course in film studies, modern world literature, and autobiographical
writing.
I am currently the head of the Faculty
Development Committee which focuses on proposals to improve
the intellectual and work environment of faculty.
I have an array of experiences in university
administration in public relations, publications, news information,
and fund raising at three universities.
I am a book review editor of the Antioch
Review, a quarterly literary and cultural journal founded
in 1941. In this capacity I use a number of creative writing
graduates as book reviewers. My most recent writing has
been published in Artists and Authors for Young Adults,
History Fact Finder (UXL), and Great Misadventures (UXL).
