Dissertation: The Colonial Encounter in French Algeria: A Study of Power Asymmetry and Symbolic Violence in the City of Constantine. An analysis of European and Muslim patterns of politics, perception, and social interaction.

Teaching and Administrative Positions

Chair of Humanities and General Education at Antioch University Midwest. During his thirty year college career, Jim has taught Anthropology at Antioch College, Cultural Studies at the American University of Beirut, Linguistics at the University of Constantine (in Algeria) as well as World Classics and other interdisciplinary courses at Antioch University Midwest. Jim co-directed summer programs in World Order Studies at the Landegg Academy in Switzerland and a World Peace Programme at Townshend International School in Czech Republic. He has served as consultant, guest speaker, and workshop presenter at a variety of universities, conferences, and organizations on subjects related to the Middle East, intercultural relations and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching the World Classics.
