Educational Goals Statement and the AUM Application Express
Antioch University Midwest places a heavy emphasis on developing your communication skills, both oral and written. Perhaps the most important part of the application process is the Educational Goals Statement.
Each program has specific requirements for this statement in terms of length and content. Your ability to write well and to follow directions are considered in determining your acceptance.
For some prospective students, writing this statement creates a level of anxiety that may reflect previous experiences or bring out your inner perfectionist. This can stall the process of returning to school. Here is some advice.
Write it once. Let it sit. Review once and edit. If you need to, review it one more time. Send it in. Our expectation is that you have the capacity to write well enough to learn how to be a better writer, not that you write as if you have already completed your undergraduate or graduate degree.
We will have computers at the AUM Application Express event if you need to write this on site. With the exception of the Individualized Master of Arts, there will be ample time to write this statement when you arrive.
