Alternative Educator License Program (AEL)

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree
  • A background check (BCI)
  • Official transcript showing 45 quarter credit hours (with a 2.5 GPA) in a teaching field such as English, Mathematics, Social Studies or Science, evaluated by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Successfully passing the Praxis II Speciality Area exam in your teaching field
  • Completion of 9 quarter credits of required education courses
  • Field experience at the 7-12 level (minimum of 80 contact hours)

The Alternative Educator License is awarded by the Ohio Department of Education when the teaching candidate receives a teaching job offer from a school district. Note that when applying for Alternative Licensure, the school district approves the State's application form then submits it to the Ohio Department of Education. Antioch University Midwest is not involved with the license application.
