AUM!

Welcome Alumni!

Announcing our new Alumni Association!

Kim HortonOn June 26, 1999 I was driving home from campus on Dayton-Yellow Springs Road with tears of joy on my cheeks. I had finally finished. Ten years after beginning my tour of Midwestern schools, I had completed my Bachelor’s Degree at the school that made the difference – Antioch. By the time my tears hit my lap, new emotions arose from within which could not be contained any better than their counterpart. My new tears reflected my sorrow and the palpable absence I already felt knowing that I would never again drive the opposite direction under the same circumstances which brought me there every Saturday for nearly three years.

As alumni/ae, I believe we all feel similar conflicting emotions as we celebrate the achievement of our goals. But one thing I believe remains with us is that feeling of something missing from our lives once we depart this campus. Whatever that is may differ among individuals, but it is that something which makes the Antioch experience so unique whether you attained a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or certificate. It is that something which defined your journey.

On October 21, 2009, I drove toward campus under different circumstances and without emotional conflict. I was overjoyed to begin my new appointment as Director of Development at my esteemed Alma Mater. Understanding well the facets of higher education advancement, I already held in highest regard my priorities toward my fellow alumni/ae.

On April 24, 2010 we gathered a small sampling of AUM alumni/ae to discuss the particular ways we can engage our constituency in our new AUM Alumni Association! This gathering, in true Antiochian tradition, was very interactive and reflective. Everyone was eager to offer testimony to their Antioch experience and one individual covered his own in few words that rung true for all when he said the experience “changed my life.”

While the life changing portion of our journey together may be complete, Antioch wants to celebrate your continued journey and remain a part of your life. The Alumni Association is being created as the vehicle through which this can happen and we certainly hope you will join us. Joining is easy and absolutely free. You are a member by default of being an alumnus/a. Through your membership you can look forward to learning about reunion events, volunteer opportunities, your fellow alumni/ae and service projects which benefit the community.

Though we have begun to outline the association, we are in the formative stages and we want to hear from you! Please share with us your current contact information by filling out this page and let us know what you would value in an alumni association. We look forward to hearing from you and to remaining a part of your life.

Yours in the Journey,

Kim
