Jen Violi is the author of Putting Makeup on Dead People, described by Kirkus Reviews as “a book that looks at death and reveals much about life.” Violi is also founder of Jen Violi: The Business at www.jenvioli.com, through which she helps writers unleash the stories they’re ready to tell.
With advanced degrees in theology and creative writing (Universities of Dayton & New Orleans), for over fifteen years Jen has facilitated retreats and workshops across the United States, and mentored and nurtured writers as they find their voices, hone their manuscripts, and take creative leaps and plunges.
Writers work with Jen for her soulful, skillful, and playful approach to coaching and editing. In 2014, one of her client’s books was named a Nautilus Silver Award Winner, and another has just been selected as a finalist in the Reader’s Choice Awards. Through her signature course, Discover the Book You Are Meant to Write, Jen teaches that the stories we are meant to tell are inextricably linked to the lives we are meant to live.
Jen lives her story-linked life in Portland, Oregon, where the coffee and greenery are abundant and the creative spirit palpable, just how she likes it.
Jen has been a featured author, panelist, and presenter at The Louisiana Book Festival, Wordstock Literary Festival, the Antioch Writers’ Workshop, and the Saints & Sinners Literary Festival.
Putting Makeup on Dead People was a 2011 BCCB Blue Ribbon Book, a finalist for the Oregon Book Award, and shortlisted for the PNBA and Oregon Spirit book awards.
